St. Peregrine Prayer

O God, who make us rejoice in the yearly celebration of blessed Peregrine, your confessor, graciously grant that, as we honor his birth into heaven, we may also follow his example. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

About this prayer

Historical collect · Translated from Latin (1710)

This short prayer, called a collect, comes from the Servite Fathers’ Officia propria festorum, printed in Rome in 1710, p. 25. It asks God for the grace to imitate Peregrine’s example. The book calls him Blessed Peregrine, and that wording is retained here. This is Prayer Library’s new English translation from the historical Latin, rather than a copy of the modern English cancer prayer. The source abbreviates the conclusion to ‘Through our Lord’; the usual full conclusion is supplied here. The English wording has received a project language and source-fidelity review.

Is this the familiar St. Peregrine prayer for cancer?

This page contains a different prayer: the short historical collect in a Servite book of 1710. It honors Peregrine’s example and does not contain the wording of the modern cancer prayer. The version is identified above the text.
