Prayer Library

Text and editorial policy

Last updated: October 4, 2026.

Prayer Library brings together historical prayer texts, our own translations, and devotional prayers and reading tools prepared for this library. This page explains those distinctions and the source information that accompanies a text.

Text versions

Historical transcription means that the wording comes from an identified printed edition or other historical witness. We identify the edition and selected pages or passages. Historical vocabulary or a particular variant may differ from the version commonly used today.

Our translation means our own translated version prepared for Prayer Library from an identified source-language text. The accompanying notes identify the publicly available source and the version used. The translation is credited to Prayer Library, with attribution to the original author and edition where known.

Our own prayer or practice means wording or a prayer arrangement newly prepared for this library. A new daily petition, nine-day arrangement, or prayer named after a saint is not automatically a traditional novena or that saint’s own words.

Source checking or a technical test is not ecclesiastical approval. Any statement about editorial or religious review applies only to the specific version actually reviewed.

Sources and editorial changes

For reproduced historical wording and our translations, the accompanying source information identifies the author where known, the selected edition, its location, and the source language or translator where relevant. It also explains material changes such as spelling modernization, editorial insertions, a new translation, or an expanded abbreviated conclusion. A change to spacing or line wrapping does not turn a transcription into an original prayer.

Facts about a devotion, calendar, or prayer sequence may be informed by a source without reproducing that source’s wording. A reference used for those facts does not mean that its publisher’s explanations, meditations, artwork, or modern prayer translation have been reproduced or licensed.

Source credits do not imply that the author, archive, publisher, parish, or other institution endorses Prayer Library. A source’s imprimatur or other approval does not automatically apply to our translation, arrangement, or website.

Reading and printing

Use the Print button to print a reading page or save it as a PDF through your browser’s print dialog. The source and rights notice applies to the particular text or file. An assessment of public-domain status in a named territory is not a worldwide license. New translations and modern editions can have rights separate from the underlying historical prayer. See our Terms and Conditions for reading, printing, and reuse.

Where we provide a third-party booklet with permission to distribute it unchanged, that permission belongs to the complete file and its retained copyright notice. Our printable reading page and the publisher’s original booklet are different documents. If a page directs you to an external text, our own guide or reading plan does not reproduce or license that external text.

Corrections

Versions may change when we correct wording, improve a translation, or update source information. Saved progress may remain tied to an earlier version; changing the text can require a new attempt. Please report a suspected error or rights concern to support@grigerlab.com, including the page address and the passage concerned.
